Today, Jinbin introduces to you a large-diameter electric butterfly valve. This butterfly valve features a bypass design and is equipped with both electric and handwheel devices. The products in the picture are butterfly valves with dimensions of DN1000 and DN1400 produced by Jinbin Valves.

Large-diameter butterfly valves with bypass (usually referring to nominal diameter DN500) are special valves that add bypass pipelines and small control valves to the valve body of conventional butterfly valves. Their core function is to balance the pressure difference of the medium before and after the valve through bypass, solving problems in the opening, closing and operation of large-diameter valves.

The advantages of designing a bypass for large-diameter electric actuator butterfly valve

1. Reduce opening and closing resistance and protect the drive system: When large-diameter valves are directly opened and closed, the pressure difference between the front and rear media is large, which can easily generate huge torque and cause overload and damage to the electric/pneumatic drive device. The bypass valve can be opened in advance to allow the medium to flow slowly to balance the pressure difference, reducing the opening and closing torque of the main valve by more than 60% and significantly extending the service life of the drive system.

2. Reduce the wear of seals: When the pressure difference is too large, the medium is prone to impact the sealing surface of the main valve, causing deformation and wear of the seals and leading to leakage. After bypass balancing the pressure, the sealing surface of the main valve can be in smooth contact or separation, and the service life of the sealing parts can be extended by 2 to 3 times.

3. Avoid water hammer impact: In large-diameter pipelines, sudden opening and closing of valves can easily cause water hammer (sudden rise and fall in pressure), which may break through the pipeline or damage the equipment. The bypass valve slowly regulates the flow rate, which can effectively buffer pressure fluctuations and eliminate the risk of water hammer.

4. Enhance maintenance convenience: When the main valve needs to be inspected and repaired, there is no need to shut down the entire system. Just close the main valve and open the bypass valve to maintain the basic flow of the medium and reduce production downtime losses.

This flanged butterfly valve is often applied in the following scenarios:

1. Municipal water supply and drainage: The main water conveyance pipes of water plants and the main urban sewage pipes (DN500-DN2000) need to frequently adjust the flow rate. Bypass can prevent the impact on the pipeline network during opening and closing.

2. Petrochemical industry: For crude oil and refined oil transportation pipelines (under high-pressure conditions), large-diameter butterfly valves need to be equipped with bypass valves to prevent medium impact on the sealing parts and ensure transportation safety.

3. Thermal power/nuclear power plants: Circulating water system (large diameter of cooling water pipes), bypass can smoothly control the water flow and prevent water hammer damage to key equipment such as condensers.

4. Water conservancy projects: Large water diversion channels and main irrigation pipes require large-diameter valves to regulate water volume. Bypass can ensure smooth opening and closing and protect the channel structure.
